Created by humans and Earth
Mitarte is a family run winery owned by the Gil-Orive family.
We follow in the footsteps of our relatives, making Rioja wines for the past 60 years. You can find us in Labastida, Rioja Alavesa, one of the areas with an important viticultural tradition.
The old winery
The old winery is at least 600 years old and has three open concrete vats, excavated in the stone more than 500 years ago. They have different capacities of 60,000 kg, 30,000 kg and 25,000 kilos. There are also concrete vats in an underground cave, excavated in the rock, with a capacity of 100,000 litres.
We still use the old winery nowadays to make our young wine. This is the most typical wine made in Rioja Alavesa using the Carbonic Maceration technique.
The modern winery
Constructed in 1992, it has 8 stainless steel vats, each with a capacity of 16,000 kilos, a press and concrete storage vats. Alongside there is a building where we age the wines, that houses 900 oak barrels and the bottling plant.
In this building we make our white wines and our wines that are oak aged.
We combine traditional methods and the experience passed down from our relatives with modern technology so that our wines express our personality and that of our vineyards.
